Man United in big-money sack blunder as ‘high-ranking Old Trafford source’ reveals all

Manchester United reportedly lost out on £12million worth of savings after an error in the handling of Ruben Amorim’s departure.

Amorim was sacked by Man United last week, after a series of contentious press conferences had left his relationship with the board in ruins.

The last of which came after a draw with Leeds United, with the irate 40-year-old publicly expressing his frustration with those above him.

Man United have now appointed Michael Carrick on an interim basis until the end of the Premier League season, when they will look for a permanent solution.

Man United suffer costly Ruben Amorim decision

Man United have paid around £100m in compensation to sacked managers since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013.

David Moyes was first to face the axe after less than a year in charge, and the Scot has been followed by a long list of managers since, all with the same outcome.

Louis van Gaal was dismissed, and so were Jose Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Ralf Rangnick, Erik ten Hag, and, finally, Amorim.

Man United manager – post 2013Win percentage
David Moyes53.94%
Louis van Gaal52.43%
Jose Mourinho58.33%
Ole Gunnar Solksjaer54.17%
Ralf Rangnick 37.93%
Erik ten Hag54.69%
Ruben Amorim39.6%

Each time, decision-makers at Old Trafford have offered their new manager a big contract and backed them in the transfer market with exorbitant spending before ultimately sacking them.

It has happened again with Amorim, and, according to The Sun, Man United were dealt a further blow in the process of his departure.

The Portuguese manager had been ready to resign three days before he was sacked, a “high-ranking Old Trafford source” has confirmed.

Amorim had shared a heated argument with director of football Jason Wilcox and was ready to walk away before talking to his agent Raul Costa.

Had he decided to leave there and then, Man United would have been saved from having to pay his £12m pay-off.

Man United set to repeat the process

When a new manager arrives at Old Trafford in the summer, Man United will start the process all over again.

Glasner, or whoever will take over, will once again attempt to guide a wayward squad towards the top end of the Premier League.

All the while, they will be forced to juggle the weight of a desperate fanbase and an incompetent ownership.

It is a task that manager after manager has failed to complete. But hey – why not let another one have a go?
