Man United insider has big news on Viktor Gyokeres deal
Man United are “definitely” plotting a move to sign Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres, according to the club’s former chief scout.
Mick Brown, who spent over a decade at United during their most successful period, including as chief scout, and remains very well-connected at the club, exclusively told Football Insider that he would represent a significant upgrade on their current options.
However, it was said that the deal may have to wait until the summer given a lack of available funds for a big-money deal in January.
The 26-year-old has a release clause worth £85million in his contract, but reports have claimed the Portuguese outfit could accept offers as low as £50million.
Gyokeres’ form since his move to Sporting has been outstanding, boasting a sensational record of 66 goals and 19 assists in just 67 games.
So far this season, his form has shown no signs of slowing down as he has scored 23 goals and provided four assists in 17 appearances, with his hat-trick in Tuesday night’s stunning 4-1 demolition of Man City the most emphatic statement yet of his pedigree.
He has attracted interest from the elite clubs all over Europe, with the recent appointment of Ruben Amorim thought to have boosted United’s chances of landing a deal.

Amorim brought Gyokeres to Sporting and has played a key role in his development, something which many are tipping to continue at Old Trafford.
Brown, who also spent a period as Sir Alex Ferguson’s number two, has insisted that the boss will play a key role in signing a player who fits the description of what United are looking for.
“He’s a proper striker, that’s what United need,” he told Football Insider.
“He can play with the ball into his feet, he’s strong, he makes very intelligent runs, and he can finish.
“He’s definitely one they’ve been looking at, and probably even more so now.
“I know there are some doubts about the levels he’s played at and whether he could take the step up, but I don’t think he’d struggle.
“If you look at who United have got at the moment, Zirkzee hasn’t been anywhere near the desired level, and Hojlund is improving and trying his best but he’s not the finished article.
“But Gyokeres can provide everything United are currently missing in those two.

“The manager knows him better than anybody, so he’ll know the strengths and weaknesses.
“He’ll be the key to this deal getting over the line, but from what I’ve heard, it won’t be in January.
“It’ll be at the end of the season if it does get done.”
