Man United ‘leak’ is a ‘reason for concern’ amid surprise Glazers claim
The Glazers’ Man United commercial strategy has been praised amid concern about a commercial “leak” at the club.
This comes from Keith Wyness, who exclusively told Football Insider that their impressive ability to bring in sponsorship money has allowed Man United to survive their consistent mistakes on the pitch.
Earlier this month, at an executive committee meeting at the club’s Carrington training complex, sponsorship revenue was on the agenda, with Joel and Avram Glazer in attendance.
This comes amid concerns that their revenue could take a hit this season after Marriott International – the world’s largest hotel company – decided not to extend its sponsorship deal with the club after it expired at the end of the 2024-25 campaign.
The Glazers praised for their sponsorship know-how at Man United
Despite Man United’s constant struggles on the pitch, they have always been able to rake in a sizeable sum of money.
Last season, the Red Devils recorded a club record revenue, despite the club finishing 15th in the division and losing the Europa League final.
However, after the recent loss of sponsors over the past year, there is a clear need to fix this before the Red Devils fall further behind.
When examining their current situation, Wyness, who was speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, was quick to praise how the Glazers have solved previous commercial issues in the past.

He said: “Yes, I think there is reason for concern. I also hear that a guy called Jean-Claude Blanc, who is the CEO of INEOS Sport, was involved in those meetings. The Glazers were there. That’s a pretty serious statement if the Glazers are over here and it got leaked.
“Obviously, that was one of the reasons they were there. For all the things that have been said against the Glazers, you’ve got to say their commercial strategy has been superb in the way that they took the sponsorships and sliced and diced them internationally. They did a great job with that.
“And United has always had that strength, and that’s what’s really allowed them to have all the mistakes really on the pitch and in the football side is because they’ve still maintained that strength.
“They’re now slipping down that Deloitte money table and a lot of it’s to do with the commercial side.”
How badly are Man United falling behind commercially?
Despite their record revenue income last season, it has become increasingly clear that Man United have started to fall behind the other top clubs.
Deloitte’s 2026 Money League on 22 January revealed Liverpool generated the highest revenue in the Premier League last season at £702m.
Instead, Man United were ranked eighth in the world, with Man City and Arsenal also ranked in front of the Red Devils.
With the lack of European football, combined with the loss of key sponsorships, this figure is set to drop further, and Man United could even find themselves behind more Premier League sides.
Therefore, while the ownership attempts to rectify the commercial aspect of Man United, Champions League qualification for the Red Devils could be key to help boost their income next campaign.
