Kieran Maguire: Man United are ‘looking for £275m’ after new deal struck in last 48 hours

Man United hope to rake in £275million in commercial income over the course of the current season.

That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after the Red Devils announced their latest sponsor deal.

It was revealed on Thursday (13 January) that United have extended their partnership with personal care brand Remington.

The American company are one of the club’s 23 global partners.

United earned £232.2m in commercial revenue for the year ending June 2021, as per their last set of accounts.

But Maguire claims that the “anomalous” Covid-hit 2020-21 season is not an accurate litmus test of the club’s commercial pulling power.

The spreadsheet wiz anticipates that they will be looking to add over £40m to that figure by the time they release their 2021-22 results.

“The cost of an individual deal depends on the industry and the geographic market,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.

“It might be a global partnership, but the partner itself is likely to have key markets.

“The 2020-21 season was a bit on an anomaly because they effectively gave Chevrolet and other partners six months for free at the end of the deal.

“Those deals would normally be seven-figure deals. If you multiply that by the number of partners they have, you get a sizable income.

“United are usually looking for in the region of £275m. That’s indicative of how attractive United are as a brand.”

United turned over £494m in total over the last financial year.

They were hit hard by the absence of fans at Old Trafford, which brought in £140m in the last non-Covid season.
