Man United make Bruno Fernandes announcement amid Saudi Arabia uncertainty

Bruno Fernandes has been a beacon of consistency since joining Man United in 2020 but his time in Manchester could be reaching its end.

The Portuguese midfielder has made a typically bright start to the 2025-26 campaign, although Ruben Amorim‘s decision to move him deeper into a central midfield position has limited the 31-year-old’s output in terms of goals and assists.

With that being said, the ex-Sporting CP man has found the back of the net in the club’s last two Premier League games, with one of those being from the penalty spot in Man United’s 3-2 win over Burnley.

However, despite his strong performances, Rio Ferdinand suggested Man United should sell Fernandes to a Saudi Pro League side and look to redistribute the funds elsewhere.

But an announcement from the club may point towards keeping the talented midfielder after he joined an elite group in the Red Devils’ history.

Bruno Fernandes hits 100-goal mark for Man United

Following his strike against Chelsea in Man United’s 2-1 win on Sunday, 21 September, Fernandes took his tally in a red shirt to exactly 100.

The midfielder did so in 297 games, with 64 of those goals coming in the Premier League.

United took to Instagram to share several photos of the club’s captain posing with a print of all of his goals for the club, captioned: “Bruno was presented with a special print to commemorate his 100 goals in red”.

Bruno Fernandes joins Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney in history books

Fernandes has joined several of the world’s greatest ever players to become a goal-scoring centurion for United.

11 players have done so whilst playing in, or at least partially in, the Premier League era.

The likes of Mark Hughes and Brian McClair’s careers took place amid a changing landscape in English football, but that was never going to stop them from finding the back of the net.

In more recent times, Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo both reached the 100-goal mark, with the Englishman blowing past that figure and leading United’s all-time goal-scoring charts with 268 strikes.

And whilst he is the only player in the club’s 2025-26 squad to have a century of goals under his belt, Barcelona loanee Marcus Rashford also reached that number.

What comes next for Fernandes is uncertain, but what is not in doubt is that the Portuguese midfielder’s astonishing contributions to the club during a particularly difficult period demand respect, and his status as a United legend has surely been cemented with his strike against Chelsea.
