‘Man United make January move to address major Ruben Amorim concern’

Man United have started a new relationship in an attempt to address one of Ruben Amorim’s major concerns at Old Trafford, according to a report from The Times.

The Red Devils boss has been left concerned about the physical condition of a number of his players since he was appointed back in November last year.

As a result he has apparently now recruited athletics coach Harry Marra to work with the club’s fitness and sports science team in an attempt to improve the status of his squad.

The 78-year-old is expected to spend a few weeks with Man United, where his arrival is said to have already generated excitement.

During his time there, Marra will pass on his experience and knowledge to the staff at Old Trafford with the aim of improving the condition of Amorim’s side.

The American is considered to be among the greatest track and field coaches of all time, having worked with numerous athletes over the years.

One of his major coaching success is helping decathlete Ashton Eaton to two Olympic and five world titles, as well as two world records.

Amorim has already made plenty of changes since his arrival at Old Trafford, already switching the system on the pitch while the likes of Marcus Rashford have been frozen out.

It should therefore be no surprise that the Man United boss is taking steps such as this in a bid to rectify his side’s form.

Given the reputation that Marra clearly has this should be an encouraging update for those at Old Trafford since it shows how seriously Amorim is taking things.

The idea of bringing in concepts from other sports is an intriguing one, since it could open up new perspectives that help provide marginal gains other not going down this route could miss out on.

Indeed, given the fitness issues Man United have endured with, it will be interesting to see what impact this might have on the likes of Luke Shaw as he steps up his return from another long injury layoff.

Considering things are not exactly working out as they are, this does feel like an experiment that is worth a go for the club, especially given Marra’s history suggests the rewards could be considerable if it works.
