Man United may be set to sign Bruno Fernandes replacement after deal agreed – pundit

Christian Eriksen will act as Bruno Fernandes’ replacement when he is injured or fatigued at Man United, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Aston Villa’s record Premier League goalscorer claimed Eriksen is a good signing for United because he will not be on “crazy money”.

The Athletic’s David Ornstein reported earlier this week (4 July) that Eriksen, 30, had verbally agreed to move to Old Trafford.

He can sign on a free transfer after his short-term contract at Brentford expired at the end of June.

“Eriksen will definitely add quality,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“There are games when Man United will play attacking and there are teams where they can play Eriksen, Fernandes as two number eights.

“With Eriksen’s passing and Fernandes’ passing, they can interact with each other and it will definitely work.

“There are certain games where only one of them can play. Maybe that’s what Erik ten Hag wants. There is a lot of football to be played next season.

“Eriksen won’t start every game, Fernandes won’t start every game. You can mix and match.

“Look at Man City, they’ve got the likes of Gundogan and Foden and you don’t know who is going to start every Saturday.

“Maybe that’s what Ten Hag wants – options. Fernandes could have a tough game in the Europa League on the Thursday so Eriksen can play on the Sunday. That’s what you need.

Man United

“I think it’s a good signing, Eriksen is a top, top player. I don’t see any problem with it.

“It’s a free transfer. I don’t think Eriksen will have had a crazy amount of offers so Man United will not have to pay him ridiculous money. He will be on good money but not crazy money.”
