Man United news: Agbonlahor issues ‘unfair’ Harry Maguire claim as transfer plan revealed

Gabby Agbonlahor has backed Harry Maguire to regain his form and place in the Man United starting XI.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker delivered his verdict after Maguire was finally axed from the Man United starting XI at the weekend after a string of poor performances.

The United captain was named on the bench as they were held to a 0-0 draw with struggling Watford on Saturday (26 February).

Man United

A United source told Football Insider earlier this month (11 February) that the club have held preliminary talks over a deal for Antonio Rudiger.

The Mirror‘s reported last Thursday (24 February), Ralf Rangnick’s interest in the Chelsea defender raises question marks over the future of Maguire.

Rudiger is out of contract at the end of the season and will be available on a free transfer in the summer.

Asked whether the 28-year-old should worry about his long-term future at Old Trafford, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “That’s not fair.

“Harry Maguire, whenever he’s played recently he’s been OK, for me.

“Yes, his confidence hasn’t been how it was in the Euros but give the guy a chance.

“On his day he’s a very good centre-half, maybe the team isn’t set up right for him.

“Harry Maguire is a top, top, defender.”

Man United

Maguire has started 22 of Man United’s 27 Premier League games this season.

The England star has now played 135 times for the Red Devils and was named as club captain in January 2020 by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

In other news, Kieran Maguire has revealed Liverpool have bagged £487million and are poised to rocket past Man United after new deals are ‘signed’.
