Man United news: Expert fumes as Harry Maguire victim of ‘absolute embarrassment’

Harry Maguire will find his best form for Man United once fans get off his back.

That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the defender’s future.

As per BBC Sport (21 April) Maguire’s house was subject to a bomb threat last week, forcing the 29-year-old and his family to leave their residence.

The Man United captain was also dropped for his side’s game against Arsenal on Saturday (23 April).

Speaking to club media 24 hours later, Ralf Rangnick admitted he would drop Maguire after he had been through “a tough week”.

Kenny has been left baffled by these developments.

“The whole bomb threat thing, that is an absolute embarrassment as well,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“This guy has a wife and kids. Come on, it’s a game of football. It’s his job.

“Doesn’t everyone have bad days at work? How is he meant to play to his best when he has all of this going on?

“I think the treatment he has had is completely unfair. How is he meant to play to his best when this stuff is going on?

“I know this is only one person but the abuse he gets, the booing when he played for England, how is that going to help?

“If the fans start supporting him, maybe he will play better. We know he is a good defender.”

Maguire was recently jeered by some sections of Wembley as his name was read out before England’s game against Ivory Coast kicked off on 29 March.

He has made 35 appearances in all competitions this season.
