Man United news: Expert issues ‘massive’ Old Trafford claim after Glazer’s plans revealed

Paul Robinson has insisted it would be “a massive shame” if Man United knocked down Old Trafford.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England goalkeeper urged the club to instead expand and redevelop their iconic stadium.

As reported by The Telegraph‘s James Ducker (15 March), Man Uniited are exploring the idea of redeveloping Old Trafford or building a new stadium entirely.

The Glazers are said to be desperate to get fans onside after the European Super League debacle last year.

Robinson “would hate to see” Old Trafford knocked down and replaced by a new stadium.

“It is such an iconic stadium it would be a massive shame to knock it down,” he told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs.

“If you look at the Spurs situation, White Hart Lane was no longer big enough to house their needs. The capacity was far too small and the facilities weren’t big enough. The area they were in, they didn’t have the option to extend without building a whole new site.

“When you look at the land that surrounds Old Trafford, there is plenty of room. They could certainly extend out the back of the Stretford end.

“From a personal view, I had a lot of happy times there playing for England and I’d hate to see the place demolished without keep at least some of it’s original character.”
