Man United news: Insider issues verdict on Harry Maguire being axed after latest update – ‘I fully expect…’
There should be no concerns about the fitness of Man United defender Harry Maguire ahead of England’s game with the USA on Friday (25 November).
That is the view of medical expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in injury and data analysis, speaking exclusively to Football Insider.
Maguire was forced off after 70 minutes of England’s 6-2 thrashing of Iran in their opening group game on Monday (21 November) with illness.
Sky Sports reported on Thursday (24 November) that the 29-year-old is “fine” and expected to earn his 50th international cap against the USA.
“Those on-field assessments indicated that there might be some sort of head injury, particularly with what happened earlier in the first half of that game,” Dinnery told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“Once again, concussion and head injuries were once again at the forefront of conversations.
“We’ve since found out that enforced withdrawal from Harry Maguire was more illness and he was feeling dizzy.
“Given where we were at in that game, Gareth Southgate decided to take him off as a precautionary measure. There’s no need to take any risks.
“While illness affects people in different ways and it’s not like an injury where you can, more or less, pin down an approximate timeline and there are no guarantees, I would fully expect Harry Maguire to be available for that game against the USA.”

Maguire only started five games across all competitions in the first part of the season for Man United.
He is now behind Lisandro Martinez, Victor Lindelof and Raphael Varane in the pecking order at Old Trafford.
