Man United news: La Liga expert issues ‘phenomenal’ Cristiano Ronaldo verdict

Kevin Campbell has claimed tonight’s Champions League clash against Atletico Madrid is “tailor-made” for Man United icon Cristiano Ronaldo.

The former Arsenal striker, who delivered weekly punditry for La Liga TV last season, was speaking exclusively to Football Insider ahead of the Old Trafford showdown.

Ronaldo, 37, returned to the Man United side with aplomb against Tottenham on Saturday (12 March), netting a hattrick as Ralf Rangnick’s side won 3-2.

The Red Devils claimed a 1-1 draw at the Wanda Metropolitano in the first leg, meaning a victory would take them through to the quarter-finals.

The Portugal icon has netted the most goals in Champions League history (140) and has won the competition five times.

When asked if Ronaldo could explode against Atleti tonight, Campbell told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury: “Oh yeah, this game is tailor-made for Cristiano Ronaldo.

“There’s a lot of history and a lot of water under the bridge between him and Atletico. He was obviously such a legend over at Real Madrid.

“I think this a game he’ll be relishing – and he probably won’t be like that for many games anymore.

“It’s a game he can really get stuck into and knock out the old enemy in Atleti. He takes pride in showing up for these enormous games with all the phenomenal performances we’ve seen throughout the years.”

Ronaldo has scored 25 goals in 36 games against Atletico Madrid – including in the 2014 Champions League final.

Man United

The former Juventus star has netted 18 goals in 32 appearances for Man United this term.

Ronaldo is under contract at Old Trafford until June 2023.
