Man United news: ‘No way back’ for Jesse Lingard at Old Trafford after update via Sky – pundit
Paul Robinson has claimed “there’s no way back” for Jesse Lingard at Man United after the attacker was omitted from Friday’s FA Cup squad.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England goalkeeper suggested the 29-year-old may never play for the Red Devils again.
Lingard was left out of the Man United squad that were knocked out of the FA Cup by Middlesbrough on Friday night.
On Twitter (3 February), Lingard revealed the club had advised him to take time off despite the fact he wanted to play.
As quoted by Sky Sports (7 February), Ralf Rangnick urged his players to communicate with him in person rather than on social media.
When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of the latest, Robinson said: “I think he’s been treated harshly by the club.
“I understand why they wouldn’t let him go to West Ham or Tottenham because Man United are competing with them for the top four.
“The manager said he could go in January so he is clearly not a part of his plans. He will not play much, if at all, between now and the end of the season. It is to the player’s detriment because if he doesn’t play he’ll struggle to get into the World Cup squad.
“He needs to be realistic and get his head down now. There can be no ifs and buts. He needs to get his head down between now and the end of the season.
“His destiny will be in his own hands come the summer. I suspect there is no way back now at United, the relationship looks to have deteriorated. I don’t even think a new manager can persuade him to stay.”
