Man United news: Pundit baffled as talkSPORT slam Scott McTominay – ‘it’s a complete load of rubbish’

Paul Robinson has leapt to the defence of Scott McTominay after the Man United midfielder was criticised for attending Tyson Fury’s fight against Dillian Whyte.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one said “it’s a complete load of rubbish” to suggest the 25-year-old should not have been out after losing at Arsenal.

McTominay was said to be in attendance at Wembley on Saturday as Tyson Fury knocked out Dillian Whyte to retain his WBC world title.

Speaking to BT Sport earlier that day (23 April), the Scotland international called out his teammates for their performance at the Emirates.

Simon Jordan, who spotted McTominay at Wembley, criticised the United star on talkSPORT along with Danny Mills (26 April) for attending the boxing after a loss.

When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on the criticism, Robinson said: “It’s a complete load of rubbish.

“If you have a bad day at work it doesn’t mean you can’t go out with your friends.

“Footballers are under more scrutiny than ever. When they lose they don’t go and sit at home for three days. They need a life outside of football.

“Personally, I wouldn’t have gone. I wasn’t good after a defeat so my family wouldn’t speak to me until Monday morning if we’d lost. Everyone is different though.

“It is unfair to scrutinise their lifestyle outside the game. They are paid to do a job. They get limited down time and they should be allowed a life.

“McTominay has not done anything wrong. I don’t get it, I really don’t.”
