Man United news: Pundit ‘confident’ on Harry Maguire quitting after journalist’s transfer update

Harry Maguire has a future at Man United even if Antonio Rudiger comes in this summer, according to Paul Robinson.

The former Spurs and England number one, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed Maguire, 28, is a “top-class centre-half” who will soon return to “his best.”

Maguire has come under intense scrutiny for his performances this season and was dropped for the visit of Watford on Saturday.

A United source told Football Insider (11 February) that the Red Devils have held preliminary talks over a deal for Chelsea’s Antonio Rudiger, 28.

The centre-half has entered the final six months of his contract at Stamford Bridge.

According to the Mirror‘s Darren Lewis (24 February), Ralf Rangnick’s keen interest in Rudiger casts a shadow over the future of Maguire.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his assessment of Maguire’s future, Robinson said:

“It is going be interesting to see where Maguire’s future lies if Rudiger comes in.

“If Rudiger or an alternative comes in there will be serious competition for places in that back four. It very much depends on who the manager is there next season as well.

“I don’t think his future is truly in question though. In my opinion, Maguire is a top-class centre-half who is simply struggling for form. I’m confident that he’ll stay and get back to his best.”
