Man United news: Pundit ‘doesn’t like’ what he spotted from Anthony Elanga after footage emerges

Paul Robinson has heaped praise on Man United attacker Anthony Elanga after Sunday’s win at Elland Road.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Leeds and England goalkeeper said the 19-year-old “showed a lot of character” to score after being struck by a missile.

An object thrown by a Leeds fan hit Elanga as Man United players celebrated their third goal yesterday.

The Red Devils winger then silenced the Elland Road crowd by putting the game to bed on 88 minutes.

As captured by Sky Sports (20 January), Elanga gestured towards the home crowd at full time.

Robinson was unimpressed by the teenager’s actions after the game.

“He showed a lot of character,” he told Football Insider.

“I did not like the way he celebrated at the end of the game in front of the Leeds fans. He was pointing down as if Leeds were going down. The incitement wasn’t needed.

“It shows great character from him to get the goal though.

“The two substitutes changed the game. Elanga and Fred won the game for them. Substitutes characterised the game when you think about it.

“Raphinha and [Joe] Gelhardt had a big impact and then Elanga and Fred did the same. It was instant. The two managers made two excellent decisions.”

The FA has launched an investigation into the events that unfolded at Elland Road.

As reported by the BBC (21 February), West Yorkshire Police said a total of nine arrests were made for offences which include the throwing of missiles.
