Man United news: Pundit drops ‘incredible signing’ claim after source’s Kylian Mbappe reveal

Kylian Mbappe’s arrival at Man United would transform Marcus Rashford.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former West Ham striker Frank McAvennie insisted Rashford belongs as a striker at United and suggested the potential arrival of Mbappe will facilitate that switch.

Last week (13 June), Football Insider revealed that Sheikh Jassim, one of the bidders in the takeover of United, would love to bring Mbappe to Old Trafford.

He believes the 24-year-old “belongs at Man United” and would be keen for him to join if his takeover of the club is successful.

The France international has a year left on his contract at Paris Saint-Germain that includes the option of a 12-month extension.

But Mbappe has informed the Ligue 1 giants that he will be opting against activating that clause.

PSG are set to offer the attacker a new deal and if he chooses not to sign he will be sold this summer with the French club’s valuation believed to be around £170million.

McAvennie insisted Mbappe’s arrival would push Rashford into a better position.

Mbappe would be an incredible signing,” he told Football Insider.

I think if Mbappe went they would put Rashford through the middle. It would be incredible.

I think Rashford is a centre-forward anyway and I think he could be a really good one. They keep putting him out left but he is not Mbappe that is for sure.

Rashford also has a year left to run on his contract after his arrival in 2016.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano (19 June), the Red Devils are on the verge of reaching an agreement with the 25-year-old over a new long-term deal.
