Man United news: Pundit explains why ‘brilliant’ Aaron Wan-Bissaka is being sold amid Sky update

Aaron Wan-Bissaka is being sold by Man United due to his lack of attacking threat.

That’s according to former Leeds United hitman Noel Whelan, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the defender’s future.

Sky Sports reported on 19 May that Man United will let Wan-Bissaka leave this summer and would be open to a temporary exit if it included an obligation to buy.

The right-back, who moved to Old Trafford from Crystal Palace for £50million in the summer of 2019, ended the season out of the starting XI.

Whelan claims the defender’s lack of threat going forward has cost him his place at Old Trafford.

“He’s never been a fan favourite, has he?” Whelan told Football Insider‘s Russell Edge.

“I don’t think the fans have ever been convinced. From a defending point of view, he’s brilliant.

“One on one, he is one of the best but they need him more going forward. You have to be box to box.

“He can’t do that attacking side, that’s where he falls flat. When he gets into the final third there isn’t that cross, that delivery.

“I think that’s where he fails. On his day, he is one of the best defenders but the modern-day full-back needs to be solid going forward.

“How many goals has he scored for Man United? Two, that is nowhere near. Look at Liverpool’s wing-backs. How many goals and assists do they get.

“When you compare them, Wan-Bissaka isn’t even in the top 12 full-backs in the league.

Man United fans are growing tired

Wan-Bissaka has made 20 appearances in the Premier League this season.

He has not featured in any of the club’s last four games.

In other news, it can be revealed that a Man United man has only a six-day-a-month deal.
