Man United news: Pundit lambasts Bruno Fernandes as unseen footage emerges on Twitter
Alan Hutton has claimed Bruno Fernandes is not a leader at Man United.
But, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender said he understood Fernandes’ frustration at the weekend because it’s in his “nature” to “win at all costs”.
The 28-year-old has been heavily criticised for his behaviour in United’s 7-0 thrashing by Liverpool on Sunday (5 March).
The Portugal international was given the armband for the fixture but was visibly frustrated by them team’s performance.
Footage has emerged on Twitter (6 March), of the midfielder giving up on trying to prevent a Liverpool attack after failing to tackle Stefan Bajcetic.
According to the Daily Mail (6 March), members of the Red Devils camp have reservations over giving Fernandes the armband full time.
Hutton insisted Fernandes’ behaviour was not befitting of the Man United captain.
“You want your captain to lead by example on and off the pitch,” he told Football Insider.
“Does he do that always on the pitch? No. I got really frustrated when I was playing if players in the team were throwing their arms up and shouting at people and not encouraging. It is annoying.
“But that would be up to the other players to try and sort that out. I think he does need to do better.

“On the flip side to that, I have played with others who are that competitive and their nature is to win at all costs and they get frustrated. He was definitely a frustrated figure as well so I do understand.
“But ultimately as the captain you have to do better.“
