Man United news: Pundit shares ‘nightmare’ verdict after source’s ‘all-out’ manager update

Man United may struggle to appoint a top manager if they fail to qualify for the Champions League this season.

That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about who should replace Ralf Rangnick.

A Man United source told Football Insider on Friday (11 March) the club are set to go “all-out” in a bid to lure Thomas Tuchel from Stamford Bridge amid the Blues’ uncertain future caused by government sanctions on Roman Abramovich.

The Old Trafford board believe the 48-year-old is “by far the best candidate” in the hunt for Ralf Rangnick’s successor.

Mauricio Pochettino and Erik ten Hag have also been heavily linked with the job since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was fired in November.

However, with the Red Devils’ place in the top four far from confirmed, Kenny has suggested those managers may want to move elsewhere.

“Don’t get me wrong, Man United is still a massive club,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“It’s a big job for whoever takes it and to take the club back to the big time, that will take one of these elite managers.

“The thing is. for those managers. there will be better options available for them.

“There are a lot of problems at Man United. Working with that board must be a nightmare.

“I think they will get a good manager in but it might not be their first choice, especially if they don’t get into the Champions League.

“Whoever takes it on is brave because the club needs a complete overhaul.”

Man United briefly occupied fourth-place in the Premier League on Sunday (13 March).

Arsenal then returned to the position as they beat Leicester 2-0 thanks to goals from Thomas Partey and Alex Lacazette.
