Man United news: Whelan issues verdict on Paul Pogba making surprise move to Liverpool

Noel Whelan has insisted Premier League clubs will be reluctant to “break the bank” for Man United superstar Paul Pogba this summer.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 28-year-old “hasn’t done enough” with the Red Devils to warrant a top-four move.

According to The Telegraph‘s Mike McGrath (16 February), Pogba is open to a move to another Premier League club.

The France international is out of contract at the end of the season.

Pogba has registered one goal and eight assists in 13 Premier League games this term.

Whelan suggested the midfielder lacks the required energy to play in midfield under the likes of Jurgen Klopp.

“It’d be a kick in the teeth for Man United if he moves to another Premier League club,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“But it doesn’t surprise me at all, there are no friends in this game – just acquaintances.

“Saying that, where would he fit in? Does he slot into Man City’s squad? Not so much.

“Liverpool? I don’t think he’s got enough energy to play in that high-intensity Klopp midfield.

“I don’t think it’s going to happen – even Chelsea would probably rather look elsewhere.

“He hasn’t really done enough at Man United to make these top four sides want to break the bank in order to get him in.

“He’s one of these players who brings a bit of petulance as well, so I’d be very surprised if he goes anywhere in England in the summer.”
