Man United news: Kieran Maguire shreds ‘disgraceful’ Old Trafford plot
Man United owners the Glazers wanted to help finance an Old Trafford revamp through their “disgraceful” breakaway league plots.
That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the state of the Red Devils’ stadium.
The Champions League final has been moved from St Petersburg to Paris following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Daily Mail journalist Mike Keegan tweeted on Wednesday (22 February) that Old Trafford would have needed improvements to be considered.
United were one of several Premier League teams to back Project Big Picture and the Super League in October 2020 and April 2021 respectively.
Maguire claims that the Glazers were scheming to have other teams finance their infrastructure costs with the controversial breakaway plots.
“It’s an indictment of the handling of the stadium from the Glazers,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.
“They have been looking for someone else to pay for infrastructure at the club for some time now.
“If you take a look at the small print for Project Big Picture and the Super League, there were central funds for infrastructure costs.
“Given that the Glazers were at the forefront of those attempts to de-democratise football, you can see that’s what they wanted.
“The more you read those plans, the more disgraceful they get.”

It has been reported that United have hired a master planner to increase capacity at Old Trafford.
Improvements at the Red Devils’ Carrington training complex have also been mooted.
