Man United potentially targeting signing of next Son Heung-min after journalist’s update – Robinson
Paul Robinson has urged Man United to consult Erik ten Hag before potentially appointing Paul Mitchell as their transfer chief.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Spurs and England goalkeeper claimed Mitchell, 40, could “harm” Ten Hag’s chances of succeeding at Old Trafford.
On Thursday (21 April), the Red Devils announced Erik ten Hag as their new manager on a contract until June 2025.
According to The Athletic‘s David Ornstein (25 April), current interim boss Ralf Rangnick has endorsed AS Monaco director of football Paul Mitchell to United chiefs.
Mitchell oversaw the signing of Son Heung-min while at Tottenham in 2015.
Robinson suggested United would be hoping for Mitchell to achieve similar successes at Old Trafford if appointed.
“Man United need harmony and they need Ten Hag to be involved in the decision making,” he told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs.
“Rangnick cannot make all of the decisions. The new manager has to have choice and harmony. If you want Ten Hag to do the best job he can you must give him freedom. You don’t harm him by employing staff who he may not have a good working relationship with.

“Paul Mitchell is very good. He has a track record of signing top players. He signed a lot of quality with the most notable being Sonny [Son Heung-min]. Man United would hope he could pull off signings like that if he comes in.
“They need a clear out both of players and staff. It has to be in harmony with what Ten Hag wants though.”
