Kieran Maguire salutes Man United as £20m-a-year deal struck – ‘no other club could do this’
The fact Man United have managed to negotiate a £20million-a-year sponsorship deal without Champions League football shows the strength of their brand.
That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Red Devils’ new sleeve deal with DXC Technology.
United announced on Wednesday (6 July) that they had signed a multi-year contract with the American IT services company.
Sports Pro reported later that day that the arrangement is worth £20m per season.
Kitchenware brand Kohler had been United’s sleeve sponsor since 2018, with the club competing in the Champions League in three out of the four years of the deal.
But they will play Europa League football in 2022-23 after finishing 6th in the Premier League the previous season.
Maguire claims that the fact they have negotiated similar terms to the Kohler deal without the lure of top-tier European football is testament to the power of their brand.
“The previous deal that United had, which was with the Kohler bathroom product company, was also estimated to be worth £20m,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.
“That was when they were in the Champions League. The fact that United have managed to extract a similar figure for a non-Champions League season is indicative of the continued attraction of the brand.
“There are almost no other clubs who are able to negotiate to such a degree.”

United earned £232m in commercial revenue for 2020-21, the last full financial year on record.
They lost a total of £92.2m over the course of the pandemic-hit campaign.
