Man United ‘set sights on Emiliano Martinez’ as Aston Villa exit edges closer
Man United are keeping a close eye on Emiliano Martinez in case Aston Villa make him available amid growing interest from Inter Milan.
The Serie A giants are being linked with a January move for the 33-year-old, who remains interested in a move away from Aston Villa after missing out in the summer.
Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Martinez still ranks highly on United’s shortlist and they remain keen to strengthen in goal.
There is now a growing feeling that Aston Villa could cash in on Martinez, placing a number of clubs on alert in case of his potential availability.
Football Insider revealed in November that Aston Villa would consider offers for Martinez, with the recruitment team exploring long-term replacements.

Man United keeping tabs on Emiliano Martinez
Brown told Football Insider on 20 January that Aston Villa could allow Martinez to leave, but a move at the end of the season would be more likely than in January.
Man United, meanwhile, are happy with the progress made by Senne Lammens but would jump at the chance to sign “one of the best in the world” in Martinez.
“Martinez will definitely be one to watch for Man United,” Brown told Football Insider.
“Lammens has done well since coming in, I think he’s looked solid and reliable, but they could do with a real top-class goalkeeper in there.
“Martinez certainly fits that bill, I think he’s still one of the best in the world when he’s at the top of his game and he would certainly be an improvement.

“So if Villa are going to be willing to let him go then they’d be silly not to consider it at least, they wanted him in the summer and nothing has changed since then.
“If he’s available and the price isn’t too much for them to afford, I would be surprised if they didn’t make a move.”
Harry Maguire update emerges at Man United
Despite ongoing speculation about potential new signings, Man United have a decision to make about a number of their current players, including Harry Maguire.
Maguire returned to the starting XI and played a crucial role as Michael Carrick’s side beat Man City 2-0, reigniting speculation about his long-term future.
Brown told Football Insider on 20 January that Man United must extend Maguire’s contract, as he remains an important part of the squad and starting XI.

His leadership and performances at the heart of the defence are expected to be crucial, while the likes of Ayden Heaven and Leny Yoro can learn from his experience.
Brown warned Football Insider in September that Amorim is pushing Maguire out of Man United, but Carrick’s arrival may now have given him a second chance.
