‘Man United should move heaven and earth for this manager – rivalry shouldn’t matter’

Man United have been urged to ignore a huge rivalry with Liverpool to appoint their next permanent manager ahead of next season.

Michael Carrick has been installed as Man United’s interim until the end of the season, with Darren Fletcher‘s very short reign ending with defeat to Brighton in the FA Cup third round.

This comes after a critical fallout between Ruben Amorim and Jason Willcox, which brought an end to the Portuguese’s very mixed 14 months in charge of the Red Devils.

Several big names have been linked with Old Trafford since, not least Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, with an emotional return, but no decision has yet been made on the long-term managerial position.

However, after recent updates at the Bernabeu in Spain, Richard Keys believes he has the “perfect” manager for United.

Xabi Alonso tipped to ditch Liverpool for Man United

Keys is absolutely in love with the idea of United appointing Xabi Alonso as their next permanent manager, taking to X to share his thoughts on the rivalry between them and Liverpool.

“Perfect. United should move heaven and earth to appoint Alonso. And don’t tell me his time at Liverpool rules him out – Busby played for them and [Man] City,” he wrote.

Obviously, Alonso is no longer in charge of Real Madrid, parting ways after the Spanish giant’s defeat to Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup, despite goals from Vinicius Junior and Gonzalo Garcia.

Since the damning defeat, footage has emerged of Kylian Mbappe failing to take orders from his manager, or now ex-manager, so it was really no surprise to see Alonso removed from his position.

Which club is Alonso the favourite to join?

Right now, Alonso’s likeliest destination is Liverpool, according to the bookmakers, with Arne Slot under pressure to turn form around at Anfield.

The Red Devils’ rivals, Man City, are also in the list, as rumours continue to spread about Pep Guardiola‘s future at the Etihad Stadium, while Bayern Munich, Tottenham, and the Spain national team are all involved.

Of course, this is purely speculation, but most football fans would assume that quite a race will emerge for Alonso’s signature, just based on how big a name he is in the sport.

However, it does not appear that the Reds want to make a change anytime soon, which could leave the door open for Alonso to make the controversial jump to Old Trafford.
