Kieran Maguire: Cristiano Ronaldo is spot on about the Glazers ‘penny-pinching’ at Man United

Cristiano Ronaldo is right – the Glazers have been “penny-pinching” with regards to infrastructure spend at Man United for too long.

That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Portuguese forward’s complaints about the facilities at Carrington.

Per The Mirror last Saturday (28 May), Ronaldo, 37, has forced United to fit two new swimming pools at the training complex.

It is understood that the plunge pool and swimming pool had not been revamped since Ronaldo left for Real Madrid in 2009, and he considered them a health hazard.

United announced in September last year that they would soon upgrade Carrington, which is no longer considered a world-class facility.

And Maguire insists that Ronaldo’s concerns about the lack of investment in infrastructure are entirely warranted.

“It’s another example of penny-pinching from the Glazers,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams

“There are water problems at Old Trafford because the roof is leaking. They have hired someone to keep an eye on that.

“And now, they have water problems here with outdated swimming pools. I think it’s indicative of the malaise that has set in with regards to infrastructure at United.”

United have set the wheels in motion for a revamp of Old Trafford, although it is unclear exactly what form that will take.

The 75,000-seater stadium has also fallen behind the industry standard having not been renovated since 2006.
