Kieran Maguire: Man United to cash in ‘big-time’ as Old Trafford plan emerges
The Man United stadium revamp will be designed with the sole aim of extracting more cash from supporters.
That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the plans to revitalise the ageing Old Trafford.
United announced last month (14 April) that they were in the initial stages of drawing up plans to improve the Theatre of Dreams.

It has not yet been confirmed whether this will entail a major capacity increase or an upgrade of the current facilities.
But Christopher Lee, one of the architects working on the plans, told iNews last Wednesday (25 May) that the blueprints would be fan-centric rather than corporate-focused.
Maguire, however, argues that hard cash is more important to United than improving the fan experience.
“He can hardly say anything else given that the facilities for fans have fallen so far behind what one would expect from a modern stadium,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.
“To say anything else would be an even bigger slap in the face from the Glazers. What they mean by fan-centric is they want to get more money from fans on a day-to-day basis, big-time.

“Simple things like the catering facilities are very, very poor. Therefore, people want to get there as late as possible and leave as quickly as they can.
“There’s no incentive to stick around and spend money at the moment. There are numerous examples of other stadiums that do this far, far better.”
