Man United star backed to agree new deal after it was ‘unthinkable’ a year ago

Man United are starting to put long-term plans in place as they aim to back Ruben Amorim to turn around the club’s recent fortunes.

Amorim had come under serious sack pressure at Man United, but plans are being put in place to build a long-term project with him at the helm.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has decided to support Amorim and recently revealed he would be prepared to give him as long as three years, forcing the club to make plans for the future.

However, the likes of Bruno Fernandes, Casemiro, Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw are all set to see their contracts expire in the next two seasons, leading to concerns behind the scenes.

As a result, efforts are now being made to keep hold of some of their most important players, with Amorim leading the push for new deals to be agreed.

Casemiro could now agree new contract at Man United

Casemiro was widely expected to leave Man United during the summer amid frustrations with his performances and the lofty wage he collects at Old Trafford.

However, as I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 33-year-old has worked his way back into favour under Amorim and is growing increasingly likely to agree a new deal on reduced terms to stay at United.

Despite suggestions that the Brazilian could sign a new contract being considered “unthinkable” just one year ago, there is a belief a deal can now be agreed.

Speaking on the Inside Track podcast, I explained: “Yeah, it’s been a bit of a turnaround in Casimiro’s future prospects at Old Trafford. He’s definitely played his way back into favour under Amorim.

“It seems that Ruben Amorim is not rushing him out the door right now as well. Casemiro obviously is out of contract in the summer, but United do have an option to extend it.

“I think if they were to give him a new contract, does seem it would be on reduced wages because he is among the highest earners at Man United.

“And United are obviously looking to trim their wage bill.

“Casemiro, he’s in a strong position here. If he doesn’t agree a new contract at United or he doesn’t feel the terms on offer are good enough, he won’t be short of offers.

“There’s a real possibility that they could give him a new contract to keep him at the club, probably six to 12 months ago it was unthinkable.”

While United are planning to keep him, interest from Saudi Pro League clubs could see Casemiro reunited with Cristiano Ronaldo at Al-Nassr amid growing interest.

Casemiro set for Man United wage cut in contract latest

Former United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider in September that Man United could let Casemiro leave following his frustrating display against Chelsea.

Casemiro was sent off during Man United’s 2-1 win against Chelsea, and has since been branded “selfish” and “stupid” for picking up an avoidable second yellow card.

However, there is a recognition that he has become a more valuable member of Amorim’s starting XI, and his stay could be extended on one condition.

The Brazilian midfielder is believed to be on around £375,000 a week at Old Trafford, and any extension to his deal would have to include a substantial pay cut.

As a result, football finance expert Stefan Borson told Football Insider that Man United will not activate Casemiro’s extension clause, but may aim to reach a new agreement.
