Man United star Joshua Zirkzee ‘likes’ social media post after January move reveal
Man United striker Joshua Zirkzee ‘liked’ a social media post mocking his style of play after reports emerged linking him with a move back to Italy.
The 23-year-old made the £36.5million switch from Italian side Bologna to the 20-time Premier League champions in the summer but reports suggest he may already be itching for a return to Serie A.
According to Calciomercato, Zirkzee is ‘hoping’ for a return to Italy in January with former manager Thiago Motta keen on a reunion at Juventus.
The Dutch striker earned plaudits across the continent last season, scoring 14 goals and providing nine assists across all competitions for Bologna, helping them qualify for the Champions League for the first time in their history.
Since joining Man United, he has struggled to live up to the hype, scoring just once in 11 appearances—though it was the winner on his debut against Fulham.
Joshua Zirkzee is angling for Man United exit
Not quite a number nine but not technical enough to be a number 10, Zirkzee labeled himself a ‘9.5’ for instinctively dropping into the midfield instead of leading the line.
He said, “I occasionally drop down to midfield. I don’t do that for myself but to help the team.
“I am what I call a false striker. Not a No 9, not a No 10. I am a 9.5! That’s my game. Maybe I’m a little different than others. But being different is good, right?”
Zirkzee has only played a full ninety minutes for Man United once, in their 3-0 Premier League win over Southampton.
He has since been relegated to the bench, playing just 148 minutes across their next four Premier League games as they sit in 12th.
Fans have mocked the striker for his unconventional style of play, and Zirkzee decided to get ahead of the banter by liking an Instagram video that pokes fun at him.

Erik ten Hag has been given a slight reprieve after their 2-1 Premier League win over Brentford on Saturday (October 19).
Still sitting in 12th place, the Dutchman is in urgent need of better results if he hopes to keep his job at the Premier League giants.
