Man United submit bid to sign ‘talented’ playmaker loved by Xabi Alonso

Manchester United are attempting to complete a deal for Olympiacos midfielder Christos Mouzakitis in January.

Former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider that Manchester United could spend another £200million on new signings in the coming windows.

The Red Devils spent well over £200m in the summer, but are keen to further strengthen Ruben Amorim‘s squad after an up-and-down start to the season.

Manchester United beat Crystal Palace 2-1 on Sunday, in what was a return to form after three consecutive Premier League fixtures without victory.

The 33-year-old has featured in 12 of the Red Devils’ 13 Premier League fixtures, but has not always managed to keep up with the pace of the game.

Decision-makers at Old Trafford now look to have turned elsewhere, with Sportime reporting on Wednesday that Manchester United have submitted a bid worth around £24m for Mouzakitis.

The 18-year-old also has interest from Real Madrid, but his sale will only be sanctioned if a club can get close to Olympiacos’ £35m demands.

What Xabi Alonso said about ‘exceptional’ Mouzakitis

Mouzakitis started against Real Madrid just last week, as Xabi Alonso‘s team emerged narrow 4-3 winners over the Greek champions.

The midfielder played the full game and was strong in the face of the talented pair of Eduardo Camavinga and Aurelien Tchouameni.

Speaking after the game, Alonso was full of praise amid Real Madrid’s ongoing tracking of the Greece international.

“The player has a big impact, he has exceptional skills,” the Spaniard said when asked about Mouzakitis’ performance.

“He is a very talented midfielder and we will be watching him.” It appears Manchester United are not alone in their interest, with such a calibre of interest only a testament to the youngster’s potential.
