Man United tipped to appoint ‘first choice’ Pochettino after Sky reveal today – pundit
Man United should not be looking any further than Mauricio Pochettino in their search for a new manager, according to Noel Whelan.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 49-year-old would be a great “long-term” appointment who can reinstall an “identity and philosophy” at Old Trafford.
Man United confirmed the sacking of faltering former boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on Sunday (November 21st), following a 4-1 embarrassment against Watford a day earlier.
As reported by Sky Sports today, Pochettino is interested in becoming the Norwegian’s successor in Manchester.
The Argentinian will have just a year left on his Paris Saint-Germain contract at the end of the season.
Whelan insisted Man United will be able to prise the former Tottenham boss away from the Parc des Princes.
“Pochettino would be my first choice, there’s no doubt,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.
“I’ve admired him for many years now, Tottenham should have never gotten rid of him – that was a huge mistake.
“If you’re talking about someone who can come in and install a philosophy, deal with big players, set a team up to be hard to beat – you can’t look any further than Pochettino.
“If you’re asking me who I want in the hot seat at Old Trafford – he’s the one I’d want. Could Man United prise him away from PSG? Probably yes.
“I think that’s a real long-term appointment. He’ll give them an identity again, and a style of play which will really suit their current squad.”

Michael Carrick is in charge of Man United’s upcoming fixtures while the search for Solskjaer’s replacement continues.
Pochettino has a win percentage of 52% in the Premier League.
In other news, pundit predicts Donny van de Beek desperate to quit Man United and could join Everton soon.
