Man United tipped to edge out Ralf Rangnick after Sky update on consultancy role – pundit

Paul Robinson has suggested Man United interim boss Ralf Rangnick will be edged out by the club.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England goalkeeper suspects the 63-year-old’s public desire of the permanent manager’s job has compromised his position as a consultant.

In November, the Red Devils appointed Rangnick as their interim manager until the end of the season with a two-year consultancy role thereafter.

However, according to Sky Sports‘ Melissa Reddy (22 March), United have not internally outlined the nature of Rangnick’s consultancy role.

It is said that no meetings have taken place to discuss regarding the key responsibilities of his future position.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his assessment of the news, Robinson said:

“I think the consultancy role has changed since he’s been in the manager’s job.

“The fact that he has said that he wants the manager’s job permanently hasn’t helped him moving forward.

“How can he be involved in talks over appointing a manager when he wants to be the manager? It would be undermining the man they bring in because Rangnick wants to do their job. I think the consultancy role has therefore changed.

“I don’t think that’s a bad thing though. When you look at the most successful clubs over the years they have managers that hold a lot of power, the likes of Sir Alex Ferguson and [Pep] Guardiola. Man United need someone similarly powerful.”
