Man United to accept ‘significant’ Mason Greenwood offer – sources
Manchester United will not make a U-turn on their decision to let Mason Greenwood leave the club this summer, sources have told Football Insider.
Greenwood won’t be returning to the Red Devils once his loan deal with Getafe comes to an end despite his contract at Old Trafford running until June 2025.
The club have told the 22-year-old’s representatives they will sell him if they receive a “significant” offer for his services once the transfer window reopens.
Although another loan move is a possibility for the winger, a return to Man United is out of the question.
Mason Greenwood won’t return to Man United despite Getafe form
Greenwood hasn’t played for Man United since he was arrested in January 2022 after being accused of attempted rape and assault, with the charges later dropped.
The one-cap England international was sent out on loan last summer to Getafe, where he’s scored 10 goals and laid on six assists in 33 appearances so far this season.
Football Insider revealed earlier this month Old Trafford chiefs are looking for a fee in excess of £40million to sell the winger this summer.
There is significant interest in Greenwood from top clubs across Europe, including Italian giants Juventus.
Reports have emerged suggesting the Red Devils are now on the verge of triggering a one-year extension in the winger’s contract, meaning it will run until June 2026.
The extension activation would be taken by the club to protect the value of their asset rather than to suggest he has a future at Man United.
Any fee collected would likely be added to the transfer kitty as Sir Jim Ratcliffe looks to overhaul the squad this summer following a disappointing campaign for the club.
