Man United to make Sandro Tonali move ‘very soon’ as Newcastle ‘whispers’ emerge

Manchester United could be set to make a move to sign Newcastle United star Sandro Tonali.

That is according to former Everton, Aston Villa and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, who exclusively told Football Insider there have been “whispers” from the Italy international’s agent.

The Telegraph reported on 8 February Man United have now put Tonali “high on their shortlist” ahead of their summer rebuild.

However, it is believed Newcastle value the 25-year-old at around £100million due to his importance to Eddie Howe’s side.

Tonali has started in 32 of his 38 appearances for the Magpies this season, where he’s registered five assists.

How Sandro Tonali has been making ‘noises’ about leaving Newcastle

Football Insider revealed on 7 February Tonali could demand a move away from Newcastle in a similar situation to Alexander Isak, who joined Liverpool for £125m last summer.

Arsenal made an approach to sign Tonali on deadline day of the January transfer window, but a deal failed to materialise.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness discussed Man United’s interest in signing Tonali this summer.

“I can see it happening,” said Wyness.

“Tonali has made those noises. He’s done it very discreetly. He realises that you can’t come out and say it in Newcastle. That’s not the thing to do.

“But I think there’s been certainly some whispers behind the scenes from his agent, and I think United would be a natural progression for him.”

Why Tonali would fit in at Man United after transfer latest

Wyness insisted Man United could make a move to sign Tonali “very soon” after the Italian’s agent revealed his client is considering his future at St James’ Park.

“It’s one that I would say is a hot one to tip for him,” said Wyness.

“I like Tonali. I think he’d fit well within United. I think that it depends what Michael Carrick thinks, of course, but we’ll see.

“I think that Tonali to United could be one that we could see talk about it very soon and moves being made sooner rather than later.”

However, Man United’s interest in Tonali could depend on whether they qualify for the Champions League this season and what happens with their managerial situation.

Michael Carrick has enjoyed a strong start as interim boss at Old Trafford, with his side currently sitting fourth in the Premier League table.
