Expert: ‘One of the world’s best’ headed to Man United as David Kelly deal agreed

Man United are sure to appoint “one of the world’s best” to replace David Kelly as head of sport science.

That is the view of medical expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in injury and data analysis.

As relayed by Training Ground Guru last Sunday (3 July), Kelly has confirmed he has left United after 12 years with the club.

Kelly has over 25 years of experience in sports science and was appointed during Sir Alex Ferguson’s reign at Old Trafford.

He is the latest behind-the-scenes figure to leave following Erik ten Hag’s appointment as manager.

But Dinnery insists that the Red Devils will have no problem attracting a world-class replacement for Kelly.

“To lose someone of his expertise and knowledge is a big blow,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.

“He has served under five managers and began under Sir Alex. As well as that academic background, he also has an understanding of the club.

“It is a massive loss. How that impacts United remains to be seen.

“We know that despite how United have been performing off the pitch, the perception is they are still one of the biggest clubs and brands. It’s exciting times under Ten Hag.

“So when you’re looking at attracting someone to come in, they still have that clout and appeal. They can still expect to appoint the cream of the crop, one of the world’s best.

“Rest assured, United won’t be left with too much of a shortfall for very long.”
