Finance guru: Man United set to ‘wine and dine’ VIPs to keep up with ‘phenomenal’ Tottenham

Man United will use their upgraded corporate facilities to “wine and dine” potential new commercial investors.

That is the view of finance expert Doctor Dan Plumley, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about a planned revamp at the Theatre of Dreams.

As per the Daily Mail last Thursday (23 December), United are set to choose a master planner to oversee the addition of 6,000 seats to Old Trafford.

It is understood that the overhaul of the South Stand will improve both general admission and highly-coveted corporate areas in the stadium.

Plumley explains that United will use the posh seats to ply prospective partners and in turn boost commercial revenue.

“It is essential for any new stadium or upgrade,” the Sheffield Hallam University expert told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.

“Spurs have set the benchmark. They have gone very hard on the corporate angle. It’s phenomenal what they are doing there.

“It’s a very different type of fan. They’re being wined and dine will bring in X amount of thousands of pounds on matchdays or might lead to a sponsorship package.

“This fits with United because we know they generate one of the highest commercial revenues in the world.

“They have got global appeal and that will always attract big investment.

“The kicker is that it’s the big nights that attract the big money. We’re talking Champions League and other games competing for trophies.”

The Glazers spent over £20million in summer this year improving the facilities at Old Trafford.

There are also plans to turn Carrington into one of the world’s foremost training facilities.
