Man United told to appoint ‘real personality’ Pochettino after journalist’s update – pundit
Alex McLeish has urged Man United to appoint Mauricio Pochettino this summer as they step up the search for a new manager.
The former Scotland boss, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 49-year-old’s Premier League experience sets him apart from other candidates.
According to The Athletic‘s David Ornstein (24 January), Man United are set to ramp up their hunt for a new boss, with Pochettino, Erik ten Hag, Luis Enrique and Julen Lopetegui on the shortlist of club chiefs.

The current Paris Saint-Germain boss saw his last Premier League stint come to an end after he was sacked by Tottenham in 2019.
McLeish insisted the former Argentina defender is a “strong character with real personality”.
“Luis Enrique obviously did a great job at Barcelona and now with the Spain national side,” he told Football Insider‘s Russell Edge.
“However, I still really like the thought of Pochettino at Man United.
“He’s got the experience of managing in the Premier League. I would go for him, because he seems like a strong character with a real personality.
“It seems like the players really like him and want to play for him.
“Now that’s not to say that Luis Enrique doesn’t have those qualities, but I just don’t know enough about him. Pochettino is a proven quantity in England – he’d be my choice.”
Pochettino spent over six years in the Premier League from 2013 to 2019 – enjoying spells at Southampton and Tottenham.
The former Espanyol boss won 132 of his 256 matches in charge in England’s top flight.

Man United are currently under the stewardship of interim boss Ralf Rangnick.
The Red Devils sit fourth under the German, who succeeded Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in November.
