Man United told to forget Erik Ten Hag after update pundit ‘can’t believe’

Man United should be trying to appoint Antonio Conte instead of Erik ten Hag.

That’s according to former West Ham hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the club’s manager hunt.

On Thursday (24 March) Sky Sports reported Man United held “positive” talks with Ten Hag on Monday.

PSG’s Mauricio Pochettino, Sevilla’s Julen Lopetegui and Spain’s Luis Enrique are also said to feature on the club’s shortlist.

McAvennie “can’t believe” Conte isn’t on the shortlist as he is a “winner” who can take the club forward.

“Poch wants to go back to Tottenham,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I think he’s made it clear that’s what he wants to do. That gives Conte the out he needs.

“I can’t believe that Conte isn’t on the shortlist for them. He’s a winner.

“If he is given money at Man United he will succeed there. That’s something he won’t get at Tottenham.

“He only has a year on his deal so Man United could easily pay him out of it.

“I don’t think there is any doubting that. He could leave Tottenham, that could still happen.

“For me, he is the man to take Man United forward and I think he should be on the shortlist with these other managers.”

Ten Hag’s Ajax deal runs until the summer of 2023.

He has been in charge of de Godenzonen since December 2017 and has won two league titles with the club.
