Man United told to hire ‘perfect’ Michael Edwards amid ’embarrassing’ claim – pundit

Man United should do whatever it takes to bring Michael Edwards to Old Trafford.

That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Red Devils’ summer restructuring.

On 22 June, The Daily Mail reported Man United are interested in bringing Edwards to Old Trafford as part of the club’s overhaul.

Edwards stepped down as Liverpool’s Sporting Director at the end of the 2021-22 season.

He has been credited with playing a key role in the signings of Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Alisson, who have been instrumental in the Reds’ improvement under Jurgen Klopp.

After years of poor recruitment at Old Trafford, Kenny claims Edwards would be the perfect person to bring in.

“The recruitment at Man United is nothing short of embarrassing,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“They have made some dreadful signings in the last few years. For every one good player, there are about five bad ones.

The fees they are paying as well, £80million for Maguire, that should not have happened. They need an experienced guy in there.

“Edwards would be perfect. It’s whether he has any loyalty to Liverpool I suppose. He knows what he’s doing.

“That’s exactly the kind of guy they should be going and getting, forget how much he’s getting paid, pay it.”

Man United are yet to make a senior signing this summer.

Last summer (2021) the club signed Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane.

In other news, Kieran Maguire can’t believe a Man United “myth” as a £600million announcement is on the cards.
