Man United told to make David de Gea U-turn after ‘agreement’ – Agbonlahor
Gabby Agbonlahor has urged Man United to start a “new era” without goalkeeper David de Gea as his contract saga continues.
The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 32-year-old’s performances “are just not good enough” to warrant a new deal despite his apparent willingness to take a pay cut.
According to The Telegraph (24 May), De Gea has agreed a fresh two-year deal on reduced terms – with his current contract set to expire at the end of June.
However, the report claims Erik ten Hag is yet to approve the contract – with the Dutchman having the final decision despite the agreement.
De Gea has won the Premier League Golden Glove for the 2022-23 season but has been criticised by fans and pundits alike for several high-profile errors this term.
Football Insider revealed earlier this month (10 May), Man United are keeping tabs on £70million-rated Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa as they weigh up a potential summer move.
Dean Henderson is also set to return to Old Trafford after the conclusion of his Nottingham Forest loan.
Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “I think a wage cut is fair enough.
“He’s not worth £350,000-a-week at the moment. You’ve got to be squeaky clean – like Allison or Ederson.
“You can’t make mistakes – and the mistakes that De Gea has been making, you can’t earn that money.

“To be honest, if I was Man United I wouldn’t have given him any new deal.
“It’s time for a new era in goal and a new goalkeeper. The errors he is making every week are just not good enough.”
