Man United told to ‘pounce’ on Harry Kane after journalist’s £100m update – pundit

Noel Whelan has urged Man United to “pounce” if Harry Kane is available for £100million this summer.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 28-year-old would give the Red Devils an “out-and-out number nine” again – citing the likes of legends Dwight Yorke and Andy Cole.

According to The Athletic’s Laurie Whitwell (28 March), Kane is a target for Man United this summer – no matter who is installed as Ralf Rangnick’s successor.

The report claims the England captain would cost the Old Trafford club around £100million.

The Tottenham striker, who is contracted until 2024, has netted 22 goals this season despite a slow start to the campaign.

When asked if signing Kane would be a no-brainer for Man United, Whelan told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury: “I think so.

“They’re really in need of an out-and-out number nine. Every one of their successful sides has had one – going all the way back to the likes of Andy Cole and Dwight Yorke.

“They’ve tried to copy Man City at times, playing with three wingers up there in an attempt to get that interchange flowing – but it’s not really worked.

“Look, if Harry Kane is available for £100m they’ve got to pounce – he’s one of the best strikers in the world.

“I think that’s what they deserve and what they’ve always had. If they’re to bring the life back to his side then Kane would be a brilliant addition – just look at how he’s playing right now.”

Tottenham

Kane has netted 178 goals in 273 Premier League games for Tottenham.

Man United sit sixth in the Premier League, one place and one point behind the 28-year-old’s current employers.
