Man United told to pull the plug on Jeremie Frimpong deal after Sky update – pundit
Frank McAvennie has told Man United to stay away from Jeremie Frimpong.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Celtic and West Ham striker insisted Frimpong is not strong enough defensively to play for a team like United at the moment.
According to Sky Sports Germany’s Florian Plettenberg (29 November), the Red Devils will begin talks with Bayer Leverkusen after the World Cup about a deal for the 21-year-old.
The right-back’s current Leverkusen contract expires in 2025 after joining from Celtic last January.
Frimpong has been impressing in the Bundesliga with five goals and one assist in 15 appearances.
The right-back is currently in Qatar with the Netherlands but is yet to feature for Louis van Gaal’s side.
When asked if Frimpong is the right target for United, McAvennie told Football Insider: “He is a good full-back.
“He is tiny though. Coming up to the Premier League is a big difference, there are some big players now.
“Would Man United want him? He is great going forward but defensively, I do not know if Man United would be interested.
“I think he is doing very well. United have been under a lot of pressure, teams are not scared of them anymore.

“At Leverkusen they are on the front foot all the time, it was the same at at Celtic and he did well going forward all the time. Man United are not that kind of team anymore.
“Somebody of his size, defending, he has to go to teams that are on the front foot and attacking all the time. It is going to take Man United a while to get back to that.“
In other news, an insider has claimed Man United may have banished Jadon Sancho to sort out ‘disciplinary’ problem as footage emerges.
