Man United told to U-turn on Cristiano Ronaldo replacement after transfer update – pundit

Paul Robinson has urged Man United to think twice before signing Lyon striker Moussa Dembele.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one suggested the 26-year-old would only be a “short-term solution” for Erik ten Hag.

According to the Manchester Evening News‘ Richard Fay (16 August), Man United are considering Moussa Dembele.

The club are said to be in contact with the Lyon forward’s representatives.

It comes amid continued doubt over Cristiano Ronaldo’s future at Old Trafford.

According to Sky Sports (17 August), Ronaldo would be allowed to leave this month if Ten Hag decides it is best for the club.

When asked by Football Insider if Dembele could fill the void potentially left by Ronaldo, Robinson said: “Man United do not need a short-term solution like that.

“At the beginning of the window Ten Hag would have identified targets but it looks like they are panic buying right now. [Marko] Arnautovic would not have been on anybodies list at the start of the window. The players they have linked with now are not Man United quality.

“The Ronaldo problem should have been sorted out earlier in the window. We are approaching the end of August now.

“United look the same if not worse than they did last year. There has not been enough bodies through the door.

“Dembele could do a job short term but that’s not enough. It really is worrying times at United.”
