Man United transfer news: Raphael Varane to leave after ‘huge’ development – Sources
Raphael Varane will depart Man United when his contract expires at the end of the season, sources have told Football Insider.
It is believed the Red Devils, who chose not to trigger a one-year extension to his deal, will let the Frenchman leave in June regardless of what happens in the remainder of the season.
Well-placed sources have told Football Insider that Erik ten Hag’s side are keen to make a “huge” saving on Varane’s wages as they plan their summer business.
The World Cup winner is netting a reported £340,000-a-week at Old Trafford with United keen to massively reduce their wage bill.
Raphael Varane to exit Man United at the end of the season
Varane moved to Manchester from Real Madrid in 2021 for a deal reportedly worth up to £41million.
He has started seven of United’s last nine Premier League clashes following a nine-game stretch where he was dropped from the line-up.
The 30-year-old is reportedly being eyed up for a mega-money move to Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Nassr, where he would link back up with former Los Blancos teammate Cristiano Ronaldo.
Since joining the Premier League giants, Varane has made 86 appearances in all competitions and has scored two goals – most recently the winner against Wolves on the opening day of the current season.
United have already set their sights on defensive recruitment for next season, with Football Insider revealing (5 February) that they are in pole position to sign Everton centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite.

After four wins on the bounce, Man United sit sixth in the Premier League table.
They are next set to face Fulham at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon (24 February).
