Man United ‘very concerned about signing Ruben Amorim favourites’ – top source

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted Man United cannot rely on incoming manager Ruben Amorim to drive the recruitment strategy.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted the Red Devils should not repeat the same mistakes they made during Erik ten Hag’s reign at Old Trafford.

The Dutchman brought in a lot of familiar faces during his time at United – signing Andre Onana, Matthijs De Ligt, Lisandro Martinez, Antony and Noussair Mazraoui after their time together at Ajax.

Netherlands internationals Joshua Zirkzee and Tyrell Malacia were also signed under Ten Hag.

Amorim will start work at Old Trafford later this month after his arrival was officially announced on Friday (1 November).

Man United cannot sign too many Amorim favourites, says Wyness

Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “They’ll be very concerned about bringing Amorim’s favourites in.

“This is where Ashworth and Jason Wilcox have got to earn their money. They’ve got to put in place the cohesive style of Man United behind the scenes.

“It can’t be just based on the manager’s opinion.

“Amorim is obviously a talented manager, but he’s got to realise that he’s only one part of the bigger picture.

“They’ve got to try and avoid making the same mistakes they made with Ten Hag.

“If something goes wrong with Amorim, they can’t lose all the players he brings in.”
