Man United’s Joshua Zirkzee reacts to Mark Flekken amid exit whispers

Manchester United striker Joshua Zirkzee faces an uncertain future at the club as Ruben Amorim looks to rebuild the Red Devils squad.

Zirkzee joined the club from Bologna last summer, but his goal scoring record has left a lot to be desired at Old Trafford.

It was exclusively revealed by Football Insider that Zirkzee could head back to Italy with Inter Milan interested in a deal.

Amorim wants to upgrade his forward options, but has found resistance from Brentford to sanction a sale for star Bryan Mbeumo.

Wolves attacker Mateus Cunha has been Amorim’s only major purchase so far to a side that finished 15th in the Premier League last season.

Goalkeeper Mark Flekken has recently left the Premier League when he joined Bayer Leverkusen from Brentford.

Leverkusen are managed by former United manager Erik ten Hag, who was sacked by the club last October.

Flekken shared pictures of pre-season training at the German club, with the caption “First few days,” which was liked by Zirkzee.

Zirkzee could stay amid slow rebuild

Football Insider Verdict

Zirkzee has endured a frustrating first season at United with the change of manager and the team’s poor form perhaps a reason why the Dutchman failed to flourish in his debut campaign.

More will be expected of the 24-year-old should he stay at the club, with fellow striker Rasmus Hojlund likely to leave Man United this summer.

Zirkzee’s record in all competitions last season at Man United.

Amorim cannot afford to lose his entire attack if he cannot bring in reinforcements, after five Man United players told the club of their intentions to leave.

Selling players like Marcus Rashford who are on high wages is proving to be a difficult task despite interest.

Zirkzee could therefore line up against Arsenal on the opening day if no new additions have been added, but based on last season’s form Amorim cannot rely on the striker.

It is turning to prove a slow rebuild for Amorim who currently has much of last season’s squad still at the club, and that could yield the same results on the pitch.

Amorim also potentially needs to sign a new goalkeeper following an injury to Andre Onana in training which means the Cameroon International will not travel on the club’s pre-season tour.
