Man United’s Lingard demands are a ‘pittance’ for Newcastle after latest update – pundit

Danny Mills has insisted Newcastle United should bend to Man United’s Jesse Lingard demands and agree to pay a £12million bonus if he signs and they stay up.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Man City and England defender suggested a £12million bonus would be a “pittance” for Newcastle if they stay up this season.

As reported by the Telegraph’s James Ducker on Wednesday (January 26), talks over a loan move for Lingard have stalled with Newcastle unwilling to agree to a £12million survival bonus.

The Telegraph’s James Ducker yesterday (January 26) talks over a loan move for the attacker have stalled.

Man United

Man United want a £2.5million loan fee as well as all of his £75,000-a-week wages covered so the deal could cost Newcastle £16.5million if they were to stay up.

“From Man United’s perspective, it’s a business transaction,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“You’ve got the £12million bonus if he goes there and Newcastle stay up, in the grand scheme of things it’s a pittance.

“There’s talk of Roy Hodgson getting £10million if he keeps Watford up, nobody’s complaining about that and saying it’s outrageous. Rightly so, I’ve got no issue with that whatsoever.

“Man United don’t need to let him go. They’re going to lose him in the summer anyhow so if they are to let somebody else have him and gain from them, they’ll protect themselves with a bonus.

Newcastle United

“There will always be a loan fee but if there’s a £12million bonus to stay up, would Newcastle throw £12million on the fire now to stay up? Without a shadow of a doubt.

“If you believe that player is going to improve your squad and give you a chance, £12million is nothing. If you stay up and pay £12million, so what? You’ve stayed up.”

In other news, a medical expert has claimed Newcastle United star’s return could be a ‘bigger than signing Trippier’.
