Man United’s Mason Mount reacts to Bruno Fernandes message amid Aston Villa links

Manchester United midfielder Mason Mount has responded to captain Bruno Fernandes as he could depart Old Trafford for Premier League rivals Aston Villa.

It was exclusively revealed by Football Insider that should Mount be allowed to leave United this summer, then Villa would explore a move for the 26-year-old.

Mount only joined United two years ago from Chelsea in a £55million, but he has yet to make an impact at the club, scoring just three goals across all competitions last season.

Competition for places will increase next season following the arrival of Matheus Cunha from Wolves.

Mount likes captain’s ‘warming up’ message

Fernandes took to Instagram to share a video of him training in the midst of pre-season preparations before United start their Premier League season against Arsenal on August 17th.

The Portugal international captioned the image: “Warming up,” which was liked by Mount.

The 30-year-old was once again one of United’s key players last season in a disastrous campaign for the club.

Fernandes has contributed 98 goals and 86 assists in 290 appearances for the Red Devils since his transfer from Sporting Lisbon in 2020.

Mount move could reignite career

Football Insider Verdict

Mount has yet to live up to his £55m price tag and with manager Ruben Amorim wanting funds to rebuild his squad, the England international may be a player that moves on.

With Fernandes and Cunha options for Amorim, game time for Mount does not look to be guaranteed.

In Amorim’s system, there is no number 10 position and as seen in the Europa League final Mount is ineffective in a front three.

United are also targeting other forward options to bolster their attack, suggesting Mount is not seen in future plans.

Mount needs to reignite his career elsewhere and with doubts over key players staying at Villa, he could star under manager Unai Emery.

If Villa do sell their top talent then Emery could have the funds to land a player like Mount, and if Morgan Rogers and Jacob Ramsey depart then his favoured number 10 position would become vacant.

A Champions League winner at Chelsea, Mount has pedigree and with regular playing time he could force himself into the conversation to be in Thomas Tuchel’s World Cup squad next summer.
