Man United’s updated Kobbie Mainoo transfer plan revealed after deal blocked
Kobbie Mainoo is immensely frustrated over a lack of game time of Man United ahead of a crucial 2026 World Cup.
Sources told Football Insider over the summer that Mainoo would not be allowed to leave Man United without a suitable replacement being found.
This situation never arose with the Englishman continuing to be unable to force his way into the Red Devils’ starting XI.
Football Insider exclusively revealed that Man United would let Mainoo leave in January if they sourced a new midfielder as he tries to find more game time ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

Loan move is now Mainoo’s ‘only’ option
As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 20-year-old is extremely upset over being frozen out of Ruben Amorim‘s plans.
Sources told Football Insider that Newcastle are interested in signing Mainoo in January as they look to bolster their midfield.
Speaking on the Inside Track podcast over the number 37’s infuriating position, I explained: “It’s a difficult one.

“There’s no doubt that Mainoo is frustrated with his current role at United. He wants to be playing regularly in that side.
“But Ruben Amorim has got his preferred centre-midfield choice of Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes and probably even Manuel Ugarte is ahead of Mainoo as well, which does leave a lot of Manchester United fans perplexed that Mainoo can’t find a role in that side.
“The thinking behind Mainoo, maybe looking at a move away, which probably would only be a loan move.”
Newcastle monitor Man United star but Bruno Guimaraes deal is the top priority
The Magpies will keep their pursuit of the United academy graduate alive yet there are more pressing matters to address in the midfield.

Sources told Football Insider that Newcastle are readying a new contract for Bruno Guimaraes.
The Toon’s talisman came under intense interest from Man City over the summer, pushing Eddie Howe to ramp up his plans to keep the Brazilian at the club long into the future.
The number 39’s current deal expires at the end of the 2027-28 season yet, the Tyneside outfit are eager to keep any prying eyes away from their golden South American.
